2019 Therapy Alliance Legislative Day

Make your voice heard at the 2019 Therapy Alliance Legislative Day! KPTA members will join forces with the Kentucky Occupational Therapy Association and the Kentucky Speech Hearing Association to discuss consumer access to therapy services with Kentucky's legislators. The event will be held in the Capitol Rotunda on February 7th. Please arrive by 9:30am. Following a brief opening ceremony, members will disburse to meet with their state legislators.

Make your voice heard at the 2019 Therapy Alliance Legislative Day! KPTA members will join forces with the Kentucky Occupational Therapy Association and the Kentucky Speech Hearing Association to discuss consumer access to therapy services with Kentucky's legislators. The event will be held in the Capitol Rotunda on February 7th. Please arrive by 9:30am; formal programming will begin at 10:00am. Following a brief opening ceremony, members will disburse to meet with their state legislators.  A PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED TO ENTER THE CAPITOL. IT WILL TAKE +/- 45 MINUTES TO GO THROUGH SECURITY AND THEN TO THE ROTUNDA. PLEASE SCHEDULE ACCORDINGLY.

 

If you need information on how to contact your state legislator, visit the APTA Legislative Action Center or contact advocacy@apta.org. Please note: Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, John Yarmuth, Hal Rogers, Brett Guthrie, James Comer and Andy Barr are federal legislators, NOT state legislators. Please ensure you enter your state legislators on the registration form.

 

Talking points this year will center on #ChoosePT and our efforts to combat the opioid epidemic in Kentucky. The following resources are available for you to share with your legislator:

 

 

Directions to the Capitol


From Louisville:

  1. 64 East
  2. Take Exit 53-B (toward Frankfort)
  3. Merge on US 127
  4. Continue on 127 through 5 stop lights, and turn right at the 6th (US 60)
  5. Follow US 60 through 3 stop lights and down a hillUS 60 becomes 2nd Street at the bottom of the hill. Turn right at Capitol Avenue
  6. Follow Capitol Avenue—enter Capitol to the right after roundabout.
  7. Continue up Capitol Avenue, and turn left behind the Capitol. Parking Garage is on your right after the Capitol Annex building (you are entering it on the top level, and will likely have to look on the lower levels for non-reserved parking). 
  8. To Rotunda/2nd floor mezzanine: Upon returning to the surface level, enter the Capitol Building from the front up the grand steps. Proceed through security and go straight into the Rotunda. To your left and right are steps leading up to the Mezzanine.

From Lexington:

  1. Take 75 North/64 West
  2. Take Exit 53-B (toward Frankfort)—this is the 2nd exit for Frankfort
  3. Merge on US 127
  4. Continue on 127 through 5 stop lights, and turn right at the 6th (US 60)
  5. Follow US 60 through 3 stop lights and down a hill
  6. US 60 becomes 2nd Street at the bottom of the hill. Turn right at Capitol Avenue. Follow Capitol Avenue—enter Capitol to the right after roundabout.
