2017 Therapy Alliance Legislative Day
Share |

Make your voice heard at the 2017 Therapy Alliance Legislative Day! KPTA members will join forces with the Kentucky Occupational Therapy Association and the Kentucky Speech Hearing Association to discuss consumer access to therapy services with Kentucky's legislators. The event will be held in the Capitol Rotunda on February 8 at 9:30am. Following a brief opening ceremony, members will disburse to meet with their state legislators. Please bring a photo ID to enter the Capitol.

If you need information on how to contact your state legislator, visit the APTA Legislative Action Center or contact advocacy@apta.org.

Please review the following information, ensuring your day at the Capitol is well spent:

  • Directions to the Capitol and parking information; map of the Capitol grounds

Ø  Agenda

Ø  Talking Points – Compact for Physical Therapy (House Bill 227)

Ø  Opioid Abuse and the Role of Physical Therapy

Ø  Selfie Challenge: Our day wouldn't be complete without a friendly competition! All PT and PTA students are challenged to take the most creative selfie on Therapy Alliance Legislative Day. Use the hashtag #17PTAdvocacy and post your photo on Twitter between February 8th and February 14th. If applicable, tag your legislator. Prizes include a $50, $35 and $15 Starbucks gift card.

Ø  Visit Schedule (note, visits were scheduled based on the legislators' availability and not on our agenda. Please accept our apologies if your visit conflicts with another agenda item. If we have contacted your legislator and they are unable to meet, that is indicated on the schedule. If your appointment time is listed as "LM" it means we have contacted your legislator twice and are waiting on them to confirm a meeting. We will continue to update the visit schedule and will make it available on the Therapy Alliance Legislative Day Resource page). There are two worksheets on the visit schedule, one for representatives and one for senators. Be sure to follow @KPTAKy on Twitter as any last minute changes to visit schedules will be tweeted out.

Ø  A thank you letter template and a “sorry I missed you” template for following up with legislators after the event.

  • If your name is highlighted in red on the visit schedule, you have been designated a “group captain.” At the event, the group captain should pick up a hard copy of the following documents to leave with their legislators (do NOT pick up any documents if you are not a group captain):

Ø  Talking Points – Compact for Physical Therapy

Ø  Opioid Abuse and the Role of Physical Therapy

Ø  Proclamation (either House or Senate) for your Senator or Representative to sign.

·         Following your legislative visit, please return to the Mezzanine (in the Capitol Building) to complete a brief exit survey.

Many thanks and please contact KPTA with questions.
